The Democratic Alliance (DA) has noted with concern the delays with regards to the completion of the construction of Braamfischer Primary School.

The delay is as a result of families who, when building perimeter walls to their homes, have encroached on the school’s land. This means that the project will be completed 6 months later than the stipulated timeframe.

The construction of the brick and mortar school began in October last year and was supposed to be completed within 18 months. The DA has established that construction of the school will only be completed by end of September 2020.

The contractor has indicated that there are processes in place to resolve the matter with families who built walls in the school yard.

The DA is urging the department to ensure that there is proper planning for projects to be delivered on time.

The school infrastructure budget is limited but with proper planning, the department can do better in delivering services to our learners.

Braamfischer Primary School is the only mobile school in the area and most parents are hesitant to send their children to this school as the conditions aren’t conducive for learning and teaching.

The DA will continue to monitor progress at the school to ensure that learners and teachers are given the opportunity to perform well in a conducive environment.
