The Democratic Alliance (DA) can reveal possible misappropriation of funds in Emfuleni after posing questions in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, inquiring about the money being spent on maintenance with no discernible impact.
Emfuleni Local Municipality says that it has spent over R46 million in the past three financial years on grass cutting across graveyards, parks, and communities within the municipality. This money has been spent without any visible improvements.
Across Emfuleni, graveyards are overgrown and neglected, parks have deteriorated into dumping sites, and many residential areas show no evidence of regular grass cutting or general upkeep.
This disconnect between reported spending and the lived reality of residents raises suspicion about effective oversight, accountability, and the use of public funds.
This alludes to the continued financial mismanagement and maladministration by the ANC-led Emfuleni municipality, this ineptitude is unfairly subsidised with taxpayers’ money.
Residents are forced to foot the bill for what is close to an uninhabitable environment.
The DA is concerned that public money is not being used for its intended purpose and is rather being siphoned off to serve the interests of those in power rather than serving residents.
People of Emfuleni deserve dignity and a government that delivers quality services.
The DA will continue to demand answers as to where public money is being spent, ensuring that it is used to enhance the service quality delivered to residents rather than advantaging corrupt officials.
