Emfuleni faces a R4.2M project crisis as developments are half built but fully funded

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Emfuleni is alarmed over the slow progress of capital projects in the municipality while money is being used poorly and residents are simply not seeing the results.

There are many projects that are grinding to a halt and not progressing as planned.

Some of these stalled projects include:

  1. The upgrading of Moshoeshoe Road which is supposed to be completed by June 2026,
  2. Developing New Landfill site (Yekani), and
  3. Upgrading of Palm Springs Landfill site amongst others.

The aforementioned are key projects that can assist in fighting the waste issues in Emfuleni and eradicating illegal dumping.

These are to name but a few as 6 out of 23 projects remain only halfway done. This is a result of poor planning and management on behalf of the ANC-led municipality who are nothing short of disorganised and unprofessional.

This paints a worrying picture as millions such as the R4.2 million Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) grant was spent quickly with little visible results. This raises questions as to where the money went, casting doubt on the ANC-led municipality’s transparency, eroding public trust.

Residents are impacted by crippling delays as they affect key services such as waste management and roads, leading to illegal dumping.

The DA will conduct oversight to verify progress claims and ensure public funds are used effectively, exposing possible financial missteps by the ANC-led municipality.

The municipality’s failure to manage these projects effectively is unacceptable and we are committed to holding them accountable and ensuring residents see tangible results in exchange for hard earned tax-payer’s money.
