Today, Friday 24 October 2025, the Tshwane Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) was scheduled to convene for a hearing to deliberate on outcomes of forensic investigations. This follows the recent revelation of the R777 million increase in water tanker expenditure, as well as outstanding forensic investigation reports that have still not been submitted to the committee.
However, the MPAC hearing was cancelled to instead accommodate a Councillors’ Imbizo on behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government. The invitation to this Imbizo was only officially circulated on Thursday, 23 October 2025, one day before the scheduled MPAC meeting.
The DA continues to be deeply concerned about the ongoing lack of respect and urgency for the Municipal Public Accounts Committee in the City of Tshwane and its constitutional oversight responsibility. The continued pattern of:
- Poor financial management;
- Failed internal control environments, and
- The withholding or delay of forensic investigation reports, remains the status quo in the City.
Oversight cannot be sidelined or substituted for political events; the DA will write to the Speaker of Council to insist that this meeting be scheduled to take place as soon as possible. The residents of Tshwane deserve transparency, accountability, and urgent corrective action.
