On Wednesday, 25 June 2025, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Shadow MEC for Human Settlements and DA Soweto Political Head, Mervyn Cirota MPL, will conduct an oversight inspection at the abandoned housing project near the Dube hostel, Soweto. The multimillion-rand housing project has been neglected for more than a decade, falling into disrepair and becoming a hotspot for vandalism, drug activity, and other criminal activities that impact the surrounding residents.

Cirota will conduct a walkabout in the half-built flats and hold a public meeting to discuss how the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements’ neglect of this building is affecting the residents. He will also provide detailed information on what the DA plans to do to assist the residents.

The media is invited to attend, and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.

Details of the event are as follows:

Date: Wednesday, 25 June 2025
