The Democratic Alliance (DA) is not surprised that West Rand District Municipality and Merafong Municipality accounting officer, Romeo Mohaudi has been fingered in the Deloitte forensic report into the illegal investments made with VBS Mutual Bank.
At least three officials in these municipalities have been implicated in the scandal which saw R100 million of public funds siphoned off to the bank in return for kickbacks.
Earlier in the year, we urged that Mohaudi’s contract should not be renewed as we have been aware of other irregular activities by his hand since 2017 in these municipalities.
The time has come that heads must roll for these illegal investments.
Action must be taken against Mohaudi and other implicated officials; they must not evade justice by being deployed elsewhere by the ANC.
It is through the illegal VBS investment and other similar convoluted financial schemes under the ANC that has caused these municipalities to be bankrupted.
We will study the Deloitte report and decided on the appropriate action to take to ensure that justice is served to the residents of these municipalities who are suffering due to the nefarious activities of corrupt cadres.
