The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the arrest of the Witness K in connection with the alleged 2023 theft of precious stones valued at just under R15 million.
Witness K is a former Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) official. She has also allegedly been previously romantically linked to the implicated Julius Mkhwanazi, the suspended Deputy Chief of the EMPD.
The developments paint an increasingly disturbing picture of alleged criminality involving senior municipal officials.
The latest arrest, which follows testimony before the Madlanga Commission, further underscores the seriousness of the allegations surrounding Mr Mkhwanazi and individuals allegedly linked to him.
We call for more arrests to be made of those incriminated in this ordeal.
We consistently maintain that there can be no place for criminality or corruption within the City of Ekurhuleni’s law enforcement structures. Every person implicated must face the full might of the law, without fear, favor or political protection.
