The DA in the City of Johannesburg calls on Mayor Dada Morero to ensure that urgent disciplinary action is taken against the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers recorded assaulting a motorist in a viral video today.
One officer is seen as the aggressor and broke the law by using unnecessary force when there was no threat.
The other officers present should face the same judgement for being accomplices and failing to stop the violent attack on a harmless motorist.
We have written to Mayor Dada Morero to demand that the officers are criminally charged.
This will help protect the public image of the JMPD, as the incident clearly brings the Public Safety Department into disrepute.
The incident comes shortly after we called for the dismissal of “Witness K”, who is under investigation at the Madlanga Commission for the alleged theft of precious stones.
The ANC-led coalition executive cannot continue to remain silent. All rogue officers must be rooted out.
The primary function of JMPD officers is to serve and protect the six million residents of the City, not harm the very residents they are meant to protect.
Residents must register to vote on 4 November in the 2026 Local Government Elections for a DA-led administration that will continue fighting crime and eliminating corruption in Johannesburg.
