For five long years, the people of Finetown Block 1 have been denied one of the most basic human rights: access to clean, reliable water, as they have continued struggling with continuous water insecurity.
This crisis did not happen overnight, and neither has the fight to resolve it. Since 2023, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has relentlessly pursued this matter through questions to Council and engagements with the City, culminating in a public meeting on 16 April 2025 that pressured Joburg Water into restoring water for only two weeks before the interruptions started again.
On 6 April 2026, the DA Joburg Mayoral Candidate, Helen Zille, listened to residents’ concerns about a dangerous open space plagued by muggings and illegal dumping of bodies, and within days mobilised business partners to clean and secure the area.
When she returned on 12 June, residents again raised the water crisis. The DA, alongside community leaders, immediately intensified follow-ups. Today, we are proud to announce that Helen Zille has once again fulfilled her promise to fundraise for two water tankers for Mountain View and Finetown Block 1, which will be delivered this week due to our relentless efforts.
This is the DA difference: we listen, we act, and we deliver. But lasting change requires political change. We urge every resident to register or verify their registration so that, on 4 November, they can vote for a government that is ready to get Johannesburg working again.
