The Democratic Alliance (DA) Johannesburg has written to National Director of Public Prosecutions, Adv Andy Mothibi, demanding a full investigation into the withdrawal of a criminal case involving MMC Nomoya Mnisi and her bodyguard.
The shocking allegations, already in the public domain, include the kidnapping, pointing of a firearm, and assault of a minor boy who is alleged to be found with her minor daughter. The DA wants answers on how such a serious matter was withdrawn and whether proper legal and SAPS procedures were followed.
At the same time, the DA has written to Executive Mayor Dada Morero demanding the immediate removal of Cllr Nomoya Mnisi as MMC.
Section 60 of the Municipal Systems Act gives the Mayor the authority to appoint and dismiss MMCs. Mayor Morero cannot continue protecting members of his executive while serious allegations such as corruption and crime hang over them.
Johannesburg’s residents deserve a government that respects the rule of law, not one clouded by allegations of criminality and political protection.
The DA will continue fighting to ensure accountability, transparency, and equal justice before the law.
