The Democratic Alliance (DA) questions in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature have exposed a shocking misuse of public funds in Emfuleni municipality.

The municipality has spent nearly R24 million paying employees who remain on suspension.

Even more disturbing is the case of a single accountant who has reportedly received close to R6 million while being suspended since 2019. Effectively remaining on suspension for seven years at taxpayers’ expense.

This is a blatant failure of governance and accountability.

At a time when residents are struggling with poor service delivery and failing infrastructure, millions are being wasted on unresolved disciplinary processes with no sense of urgency.

Recently Panyaza Lesufi has publicly suggested that the ANC government has “run out of ideas in Emfuleni.” Such an admission reflects a leadership that is out of solutions and unable to address ongoing mismanagement.

It is evident that the current ANC-led administration is negligent and incapable of effectively presiding over Emfuleni.

The DA is the only viable alternative to steer Emfuleni in the right direction as, unlike our flailing counterparts, we do have the answers to fix Emfuleni.
