The Democratic Alliance (DA) strongly condemns the horrific drive-by shooting that took place on Saturday evening, 1 November 2025, in Reiger Park, which claimed the lives of six people and left three others injured.

This senseless act of violence has left our community devastated and traumatised. Innocent lives – mothers, fathers, daughters, and sons – were lost in a tragedy that has shaken Reiger Park to its core.

Our community now lives in uncertainty, held hostage by acts of crime that should never be allowed.

The DA has long raised concerns about the growing criminal activity in Reiger Park, but the responses received have been insufficient, and it is clear that the issue has not been taken seriously. This tragedy is a stark reminder that urgent, coordinated action is needed to restore safety and trust in our community.

We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who responded courageously on the scene — the security companies, emergency medical teams, law enforcement officers, and residents who put their lives at risk to assist. Their bravery in the face of danger brought hope in a moment of darkness.

A special word of thanks goes to the chaplains and to Kevin Koopman, a local paramedic, for your compassion and selflessness. You are our heroes, and the community of Reiger Park is deeply grateful.

The DA calls on law enforcement authorities to act swiftly to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice. We also urge the relevant government departments to provide psychological and social support to the affected families and community members.

Reiger Park deserves peace, safety, and justice. We will continue to fight for that.
