DA to meet Adv Gerrie Nel to discuss corruption busting measures for Tshwane

Corruption is how the ANC cadre class feed off the misery of ordinary people. It is also what pushes up municipal bills.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) will push back, and in government we will continue our fight to shut down corruption in the nation’s capital.

That’s why, this morning the DA Tshwane Mayoral Candidate, Cilliers Brink, is meeting with Gerrie Nel and the very impressive private prosecution unit of AfriForum. We will also be reaching out to other corruption busters.

We want to discuss cases such as the irregular tender awarded for the upgrade of the Rooiwal Waste Water Treatment Plant awarded to Blackhead Consulting, the outfit of ANC benefactor Edwin Sodi.

Since the ANC/EFF/ActionSA coalition has taken over Tshwane the application by the city to have Sodi and his associates blacklisted from doing business with government has stalled.

The project to deliver clean water to the taps of Hammanskraal residents has also stalled, and residents have not been given any explanation why clean water isn’t being procured from Magalies Water.

And so, in the year that Mayor Nasiphi Moya has been in office expenditure on water tankers has exploded. The only taps running are those funding the water tanker mafia.

We also want to discuss with Adv Nel what can be done to prevent irregular expenditure from being incurred in the first place.

Every year the Auditor-General bemoans the defective control environment in Tshwane. But law-abiding leaders need creative ways to break the corruption culture which undermines these controls.

Soon the DA will announce a set of pledges, including policy measures, which we will deliver in government.
