DA to launch infrastructure campaign at the long-delayed incomplete Modderfontein Bridge, Alexandra

Tomorrow, Tuesday, 16 September 2025, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng will launch its infrastructure campaign in the province aimed at highlighting infrastructure challenges and providing solutions.

Gauteng residents are forced to use roads littered with potholes while also being subjected to cable theft and vandalism of substations, which often leave them without water and electricity.

The infrastructure campaign launch will take place at the long-delayed, incomplete Modderfontein bridge, which is causing heavy traffic congestion. This bridge has been in a state of disrepair since 2021. A contractor was appointed to repair the bridge and was fired after completing 50% of the work. This contractor was paid in full by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA). A new contractor has been appointed to complete the work.

We will proceed to the Alexandra substation, which is not adequately secured and vulnerable to vandalism and has also become a dumping ground for waste.

The launch of the campaign will be attended by the following members of the DA Gauteng:

Solly Msimanga MPL, Official Leader of the Opposition in Gauteng
Nico De Jager MPL, Shadow MEC for Infrastructure Development
Nicole Van Dyk, DA Spokesperson for Roads and Logistics
Khathutshelo Rasilingwane MPL, DA Gauteng Spokesperson for Infrastructure Development
Cllr Joanne Horwirtz, Ward 81 Councillor, City of Johannesburg
